Giovanni, italienischer Komponist, getauft Clusone (Provinz Bergamo) 12. 8. 1626, ✝ Venedig 27. 5. 1690; wurde 1672 Direktor des Conservatorio dei Mendicanti in Venedig, 1685 zugleich Kapellmeister an San Marco. In seinen in der spätbarocken venezianischen Tradition stehenden Opern wird schon seit 1675 die Da-capo-Arie in großem Maße durchgeführt. Legrenzi schrieb ferner Oratorien, Kirchenmusik, Sonaten und Kammerkantaten. Zu seinen Schülern zählten u. a. A. Lotti und A. Caldara. Themen von Legrenzi finden sich noch bei J. S. Bach und G. F. Händel.
